If you have admin permissions, you can alter the default Trend Lines, Confidence Bands, and Age-Related Expectation value in Balance for your school.
For all of these functions, you will need to navigate to Balance’s Admin tab and select Trend Lines.
How to Edit Default Trend Lines
Under the Default Lines tab, you will find the default trend lines for each year in the school. Select which subject you wish to edit.
Each year group’s trend line will apply to all classes in that year group. The numbers in the table represent the % of objectives (KPIs) that are expected to be secured by that point in the year.
Select a figure in any month to edit its value (except July - see below).
As this is a progress trend line, the number you enter must be equal to or greater than the previous month and less than or equal to the following month. (A pop-up will guide you through this process.)
Expected progress is always set to be 100% at the end of the academic year (July). This is not editable within Balance, as all schools would expect 100% of the curriculum to be taught by the end of the year.
If a school wishes to change this due to special circumstances, please contact our Support Team.
How to Edit Default Confidence Bands
By default, Balance sets a confidence band of +1/-10, meaning pupils within that band will be identified as 'Happy' in the Learning Matrix. This is a school-wide control. Schools can edit the range of this confidence band if they wish.
Switch from the Default Lines tab to the Confidence Bands tab.
Select the appropriate box to edit the upper/lower values as desired.
Reminder: These figures create a band, a percentage above and below the expected progress trend line, within which pupils are counted as ‘making expected progress.
How to Edit the Default Age-Related Expectation (ARE) %
By default, Balance sets the ARE figure to 90%. This means that pupils will need to be secure in 90% of the curriculum for their age to be counted as having met ‘age related expectations’ at the end of the year. However, schools can set this to a higher or lower figure if they wish.
Still, within the Confidence Bands tab, select the box under Age Related Expectation to edit the end-of-year ARE value. (Only an SLT user has permission to access this.)
The ARE trend line will follow the shape of the default progress line from September through to June and will automatically realign accordingly.
